My Journey

Growing up, I lived in the lovely state of Illinois. As a child, I grew up in an underserved community, and poverty was the norm. My mother was an alcoholic and a single parent and needed two jobs to barely make ends meet. There were many learning lessons in my life at a young age. I watched my mom work hard to provide for my sister and me. I watched my mom struggle with addiction.

One thing about my mom is she always made sure my sister and I attended Sunday school to learn about God. Sundays for me were like hiding places. I got away. I loved learning about God and all his wonders. I knew in my heart there was a better way of living, and I knew I needed to leave to create a better life for myself. And I did. I left home at 15 years old, quit school, got pregnant at 16, and was a single mother at 17 years old.

My life became messy. BUT YOU DON’T NEED THE WORLD’S PERMISSION TO RESPOND TO THE CALLS OF GOD.

I can say this with deep conviction in my heart. This is because, by world standards, I lacked many qualifications. However, by God’s standards, he had a plan for me to be part of his amazing wonders.

I had many judgments and beliefs of others like you screw up your life, you need an education, you need an abortion, and the list continues and on. However, our Creator looked at me differently, even though my life was a mess. Our creator looked at me as someone who could influence and lead others to his kingdom and do his kingdom’s work.

The things we are passionate about are not an accident. Psalm 139:13 says, “For you formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” God, the Author of Creativity, intricately created each of us. This includes our physical features, emotions, deepest desires, and visions.

As I reflect on my life, I am filled with gratitude for the abundance of blessings, encompassing my financial well-being, relationships, and possessions. I am immensely thankful for the opportunity to be a lifelong learner and act as a vessel for our Creator’s purpose. I recognize the gifts and abilities given to me by our Creator for His glory, my own growth, and others’ benefit.
